Kings County Memorial Hospital is taking precautions and putting visitor restrictions in place immediately as there are two confirmed cases of influenza and several other patients experiencing influenza-like illness in the facility.
Until further notice, visiting is being limited as follows:
• immediate family members only
• only two (2) visitors at one time per patient
• visits should be kept brief (15 minutes)
Additionally, children under the age of 12 are not permitted to visit patients in hospital at this time.
Anyone coming to the hospital, including visitors and persons coming in for other health care services, is reminded to clean their hands before and after entering a patient’s room, a department, and upon entering and leaving the facility. Alcohol hand rinse stations are available throughout the building for this purpose.
The situation will be reassessed Monday morning, during which time Kings County Memorial Hospital administration will be providing a further update.
Health PEI is also reminding Islanders to make the time to get a flu vaccine as it is the most effective way to prevent getting sick with influenza.
