An announcement today brought exciting news for the local film and television industry on PEI. Two new television programs will be produced on the Island — a 26 episode half-hour cooking series, and a half-hour Christmas television special.
"These projects are an indication of growth in the film and television sector on Prince Edward Island," said Wes MacAleer, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism. "The abundance of local talent and expanding crew in this industry, combined with the increasing recognition of PEI as a prime film location, will undoubtedly boost this emerging sector and its economic viability as a whole."
The Inn Chef, a half-hour television cooking series, developed by Gretha Rose and Johanna Elliot, will feature Master Chef Michael Smith. The show will entertain with a fast-paced, high energy approach to creative cooking, made simple. It will be filmed on location at the Inn at Bay Fortune. Co-produced by Cellar Door Productions (PEI) and Ocean Digital Entertainment (NS), the show will be broadcast on the Life Network.
The True Meaning of Crumbfest is an aminated half-hour Christmas television special that will air on the Teletoon network this Christmas. Written by Islander David Weale and co-produced by Cellar Productions (PEI) and Catalyst Entertainment (On), the tale is adapted from a short story in the book An Island Christmas Reader. It has been featured on CBC Radio for the past three Christmas seasons and tells the story of mice living between the walls of an old farmhouse who are thrilled by the annual appearance of an over-abundance of crumbs under the kitchen table. The event coincides with the human inhabitants' celebration of Christmas.
"I look at the projects announced today and I am very proud. They are projects generated from, created by, and are being shot on Prince Edward Island," said Gretha Rose, President, Cellar Door Productions. "The tremendous support I've received from Enterprise PEI is a true example of the advantages of private and public partnering."
