A new provincial investment to renovate the community hall in Kinkora and purchase equipment for the fire department will benefit all residents of the community, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Ron MacKinley.

“Community halls are the meeting place for families, seniors, young people and a variety of groups and clubs,” said the Minister. “Government is very pleased to contribute Island Community Fund dollars to renovate the Kinkora Community Hall to improve the space for residents and to contribute to new equipment for the fire department for the safety of the community.”

The Community of Kinkora and Kanata Club will undergo renovations to expand and modernize the building and make it more accessible. The total cost of the project is $270,000 with a contribution of $150,000 from the Island Community Fund and $120,000 from the community.

The Kinkora and Area Volunteer Fire Department requires support to purchase new bunker gear. This equipment is necessary to replace existing gear and provide gear for new member volunteers. Total cost of the project is $52,000. The Island Community Fund and the Fire Department are each contributing $26,000.

“These projects reflect the commitment of the provincial government to meet the needs of Island communities and their residents,” said Minister MacKinley.

The Island Community Fund is a six-year $27.5 million program established by the provincial government to address infrastructure needs in communities across Prince Edward Island.
