Two bridges remain closed due to storm damage

Crews from the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal are working hard to re-open two bridges that remain closed today due to damage from last night’s storm surge, says Minister Ron MacKinley.

“Our engineers need time to properly assess the damage to these two structures in order to carry out proper repairs,” said Minister MacKinley. “But at the same time, we’d like to see those structures open sooner than later and our crews are doing all they can to get them open in a timely fashion.”

The Oyster Bed Bridge and the Corran Ban Bridge, both on Route 6, sustained significant erosion damage to their approaches overnight and both will remain closed until engineers from the Department are able to determine the necessary repairs to allow the structures to handle traffic safely.

Detours have been set up around both structures and are as follows:

For Corran Ban Bridge, traffic heading South on Route 6 will take a right onto Route 220, Pleasant Grove Road, then left on Route 222, Suffolk Road, then left onto Route 229 East Suffolk and Millcove Roads, then back onto Route 6.The detour is reversed for traffic heading north on Route 6.

For Oyster Bed Bridge, traffic intending to head west on Route 6 will take Route 251, Crooked Creek Road from the Oyster Bed Bridge intersection to Wheatley River, then turn right onto Route 224, New Glasgow Road, then right onto Route 243 until the intersection of Route 6. Again the detour is reversed for traffic heading in the opposite direction.
