The Sports Network, commonly known by sports enthusiasts as TSN, will broadcast the Lorie Kane Island Challenge on October 4, 5, 6 and 7, 2000. The original arrangement with the network which deemed the tournament would be aired on two days has been doubled, giving the public even more opportunity to see the Challenge and Prince Edward Island.
The event was taped during play, August 29 and 30 at the Brudenell Golf Resort. Hosts Jim Van Horne, Bob White, and Donna Capponi followed the players for the two-day event obtaining coverage that will feature home-town favourite Lorie Kane with three other LPGA stars, Nancy Lopez, Se Ri Pak, and Annika Sörenstam.
The outstanding lineup of LPGA superstars generated tremendous fan support during the competition and impressed the crowd with some very competitive and yet friendly play.
The Department of Tourism is very excited about the recognition the tournament will bring to the Island. "We were able to incorporate a lot of visuals of the Island in the broadcast and are featuring a three minute 'info-mercial' on the broadcasts," noted Minister Greg Deighan. "The event was blessed with some beautiful weather, and the course and Island will look spectacular. I am sure this exposure will entice many golfers and visitors to come to Prince Edward Island."
Besides the coverage to come on TSN, the Oxygen Network out of the United States also purchased rights to air the event and will do so at three different intervals during the fall of 2000.
