Triple P- Positive Parenting Program Seminars

Education, Early Learning and Culture
Islanders are encouraged to take part in parent seminars being offered across the Island in October and November as part of the new Triple P Positive Parenting Program.

"The seminars are for all parents and they will outline the five key steps to positive parenting which create healthy relationships, “said Triple P Coordinator Peter Mutch. “The five steps for parents include creating a safe, interesting environment for children; creating a positive learning environment; using assertive discipline; having realistic expectations; and taking care of yourself as a parent.”

The most important way to help children grow into responsible and caring adults is to increase the confidence, skills and knowledge of parents as they raise their families. Triple P does not tell people how to parent, but it does give parents simple and practical tips to help manage the big and small problems of family life. The program offers various levels of support to parents, from the Stay Positive public awareness campaigns, to brief parenting skills support, to intensive family interventions.

Islanders who work with children, youth and families can train to be a Triple P provider. There are currently 48 trained practitioners on Prince Edward Island from many groups including social workers, nurse counselors, family workers and more. Practitioners offer Triple P in their communities and parents can choose to access resources via the Triple P website or through brochures, one-on-one or group sessions.

Provincial government funding of more than $600,000 over five years will provide Triple P training and resources. Admission to the seminars is free. For more information on the program and upcoming seminars- visit www.triplep-parenting.net
