Trapeze Animation Studios Creates New Project, New Jobs

A company located at the Atlantic Technology Centre (ATC) is creating an animated property to air on MTV in Latin America. Trapeze Animation Studios will hire 26 people to carry out the project.

Trapeze will create, execute and deliver ten 3-minute, two 20-minute, and twenty-eight 30-second animated segments of a television series which will be broadcast in prime time across Central and South America.

This project is a new animation style for Trapeze and will utilize new production techniques. It will offer the first opportunity for the company to use their proprietary Flash lip-synch technology with Spanish dialogue. Trapeze will carry out 100% of the directing, project management, character design, set design, storyboarding, animation, lip-synching and picture post work at their Charlottetown facility in the ATC.

“The Atlantic Technology Centre is what drew Trapeze to Charlottetown and what has allowed it to expand and to develop new and innovative technologies,” said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. “The jobs this company is creating will be of special appeal to young Islanders – they offer the potential for specialized work and for jobs that will continue to grow with the company.”

Trapeze was selected to deliver the project following a detailed review of over 20 leading animation studios throughout North America.

Trapeze Animation Studios is among the first companies to qualify for an Innovation and Development Tax credit, recently introduced by the PEI government under the Progressive Tax Rebate Program. The credit applies to companies in key sectors, including information and communications technology, on a project-by-project basis. The tax credit encourages companies to develop new and innovative products, processes or services. The program is administered by Prince Edward Island Business Development, Inc.

Trapeze Animation Studios Limited is 100% owned by Trapeze Media, an interactive media company with offices in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles. Trapeze focuses on interactive marketing, broadcast, web, and cross-platform animation and video game development. Its PEI office, incorporated in PEI under Trapeze Animation Studios (TAS), is the company’s Centre of Excellence for all its computer-generated animation and motion-graphics work, and houses content developers for new television, broadband and convergent programming.
