Traffic Advisory for Tour De PEI, June 11, 12 and 13

Next week, the Provincial Department of Transportation and Public Works will be working hand-in-hand with organizers of the Tour De PEI International Women’s Cycling Event to help ensure the safety of road users and cyclists. The event takes place June 10 to 14 with races each day.

June 11, 12 and 13 will be of particular interest to the travelling public because several Island roads will be interrupted temporarily as the cyclists and their caravans pass by. Please obey all traffic control personnel and drive with care in affected areas. Please be advised that the RCMP will be asking drivers to pull over to the side of the road when the caravans approach and remain there until the last police vehicle passes by.

On Monday, June 11, riders will take part in the Confederation Bridge Race. Due to the nature of this event, the bridge will be closed from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, June 12, riders will race from Cavendish to Wellington and back starting at 9:30 a.m. in the North Cape Coastal Drive Race. Routes affected include Route 6 from Cavendish to Kensington, Route 2 from Kensington to Wellington, Routes 179 and 177 from Wellington to St Raphael, Route 11 from St Raphael to Summerside, Route 1a from Summerside to Read’s Corner, Route 107 from Read’s Corner to Route 2, Route 2 east of 107 to Summerfield, Route 254 from Summerfield to Stanley Bridge and Route 6 from Stanley Bridge to Cavendish.

On Wednesday, June 13, riders will race from Dalvay to Stratford via Montague starting at 10 a.m. in the Points East Coastal Drive Race. Routes affected include Route 6 from Dalvay to Mill Cove, Route 219 from Mill Cove to route 218 and onto Route 2, Route 2 east from 218 to Mount Stewart, Route 22 from Mount Stewart to St Teresa, Route 5 from St Teresa to Cardigan, Route 4 from Cardigan to Montague, Route 210 from Montague to Orwell, Route 1 from Orwell to Pownal, Route 26 from Pownal to the Crossroads intersection, and Route 1 from the Crossroads intersection to Stratford Town Hall.

On June 10 and 14, races will occur within the city limits of Summerside and Charlottetown. For details on those and the above listed routes, please consult the Tour De PEI website at www.tourdepei.com.
