June 23, 2004 * Tourism [to Jan 2010]New this year, Visitor Information Centres across Prince Edward Island will be offering free internet access to travellers vacationing on the Island. Combined with the recent implementation of a central reservation system, the on-site computers provide a quick and easy way to book accommodations online and allow visitors to review Web site information and book their accommodations on the spot. Computers are being installed at the Visitor Information Centres over the summer months, providing not only reservations and information on Prince Edward Island but access to all internet services, including e-mail. The travelling public can now visit one of the ten centres across the Island and check on their electronic mail while checking out things to do and places to stay on Prince Edward Island. Minister of Tourism, Philip Brown, hosted an Open House at the newly renovated Brackley Visitor Information Centre Wednesday afternoon as part of celebrations surrounding national “Tourism Week.” “We are happy to provide visitors to the Island with this link to the new reservation system,” said Minister Brown. “This extension of service will benefit both the customer and the operator by making the search and booking of accommodations much easier than before. We also recognize that people, both young and old, are anxious to stay connected to their e-mail while away from home and we are pleased to be able to provide free access.” Staff at the Visitor Information Centres will be available to assist the travelling public in negotiating the reservation system if needed.Media Contact: Frank Butler
