Tourism PEI Joins P.E.I. Rocket to Promote Prince Edward Island "On the Road"

* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
Tourism PEI has teamed up with the P.E.I. Rocket to promote Prince Edward Island at five different Quebec Major Junior Hockey League venues in the province of Quebec. The promotion provides a winner in each venue with a special prize package trip to Prince Edward Island. Tourism PEI will provide an information booth with literature and brochures provided to interested potential travellers.

The prize draws, one per location, take place while the P.E.I. Rocket are playing against the following teams:

Quebec Remparts January 4

Gatineau Olympiques February 13

Dummondville Voltiguers February 15

Rouyn-Noranda Huskies March 6

Val D’Or Foreurs March 7

“This is a great way to tag on to the popularity of the P.E.I. based hockey team and increase the knowledge of our province as a great vacation destination,” said Philip Brown, Minister of Tourism. “Approximately 85,000 Quebec residents travel to Prince Edward Island each year and the numbers are showing strong growth. This is a great way to leverage our awareness in the marketplace and grow our visitations for coming years.”

Research has shown that the Quebecers are attracted to many attributes of Prince Edward Island, not the least of which is our easy access by car. Survey responses indicate that once they get here, the main attractions and activities that enticed them to the Island include seafood, camping, beaches, sightseeing, and the many experiences of the Acadian culture of the Island, all of which are promoted at the information booth.

The grand prize for the lucky visitor includes: return rail travel compliments of VIA Rail Canada; a car rental from Budget Rent a Car; three nights accommodations from Rodd Hotels and Resorts; golf compliments of Dundarave, one of the four provincially operated golf courses and a lobster dinner for two. Each prize allotted is worth approximately $1,600.

Playing on the well-known fact that Islanders have the very best in hospitality and hockey, this encourages spectators at the hockey venues to take a part in the contest and also convinces potential travellers that Prince Edward Island should be their vacation destination of choice for 2004.
