Tourism Marketing Authority Seeks Advertising Agency

* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
The Honourable Greg J. Deighan, Minister of Tourism, and James Tingley, Co-Chair of the Tourism Marketing Authority announced today that the Tourism Marketing Authority is actively seeking an advertising agency to assist in the production and implementation of the province of Prince Edward Island's tourism marketing program.

"The Advertising Agency contract expires in mid-May of 2001, and we are conducting this search to ensure that Prince Edward Island will have the best possible advertising in this highly competitive marketplace," said Mr. Deighan. "By beginning the process now, we will ensure that a new contract is awarded and the agency is on stream to begin creating new campaigns for the 2002 season."

Despite a recent downturn, Prince Edward Island's tourism industry has seen unprecedented growth since the opening of the Confederation Bridge in 1997, with 75 percent revenue increases over the pre-bridge levels and visitations topping the one million mark for three consecutive years.

"The tourism industry is changing very rapidly, as is the way we communicate with our potential visitors. The agency we are seeking must have the ability to produce world-class advertising that positions Prince Edward Island as a ‘must-experience' destination in North America in this new and ever-changing context. We anticipate that there will be considerable interest from advertising agencies in this review and the industry-government search committee looks forward to reviewing their submissions," said Mr. Tingley.
