Honourable Philip Brown announced in the Legislature today that Tourism PEI will continue to fund the very successful “Ambassador Program” in partnership with Island East Tourism Group.
The Ambassador Program provides an opportunity for visitors travelling to Prince Edward Island by the Wood Island’s ferry system to be greeted by staff on the ferry, who are assigned to meet the needs of someone beginning their vacation on the Island.
Minister Brown noted, “The program is intended to provide personal attention and guide visitors to the Plough the Waves Visitor Information Centre where provincial literature, local information and trained staff attend to the needs of our travellers.” He added, “The program encourages visitors to stop at the VIC to begin their vacation, not simply drive by and miss the opportunity to explore the many attributes of Eastern PEI.”
The Island’s easternmost region attracts visitors who appreciate natural spaces and outdoor activities. Development in the area is characterized by parks and trails and supported by beautiful country inns and plenty of fine dining. Stopping at the Plough the Waves Visitor Information Centre will provide visitors the perfect background and incentive to drive the Points East Coastal Drive where they will find a host of rare and special Island sites.
The Minister said, “The Ambassador Program has produced positive results for both tourism operators in the region and visitors to our Island. I am very pleased that my Department is in a position to continue the program into 2006, ensuring visitors have all the information possible to make their trip to PEI a memorable one --- a trip they will want to repeat again and again.”
