Three new members have been appointed to the board responsible for Confederation Centre, says Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister Doug Currie.
“The Fathers of Confederation Building Trust board is made up of Islanders, along with representatives from across Canada, and I welcome the appointment of three new members to this board and look forward to the diverse perspectives they will bring to this important work,” said Minister Currie. “Cultural centres, like Confederation Centre, have a positive impact on the province’s culture, economy and way of life.”
The Fathers of Confederation Building Trust administers and maintains Confederation Centre buildings and programs, on behalf of Canadians, as a national memorial to the Fathers of Confederation. They work to inspire Canadians, through heritage and the arts, to celebrate the origins and evolution of Canada as a nation.
The Trust is operated by a board of 23 members plus a chairperson. The chair and seven memberships are reserved for Island residents and the 16 other members represent other regions of Canada. They are Chief Brian Francis of Rocky Point, Prince Edward Island; Arlene Perly Rae of Toronto, Ontario; and Aldéa Landry of Moncton, New Brunswick. Seventeen existing members will be re-appointed.
“On behalf of CEO Jessie Inman, the board, and all staff at Confederation Centre, I would like to wish a warm welcome to these three inspiring new additions to the Fathers of Confederation Buildings Trust,” says Chairman Wayne Hambly.
“Representing Ontario, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, these individuals offer a fantastic complement to our existing board of leaders from across the nation.”
The new Island board member of the Fathers of Confederation Building Trust, Chief Brian Francis, was chosen through Engage PEI.
Engage PEI offers Islanders an opportunity to become involved in one of the nearly 70 government agencies, boards and commissions. For a list of agencies, boards and commissions looking for new members, visit www.gov.pe.ca/engagepei
