Temporary walk-in clinic service restored in Souris

Health PEI is advising the public that it has secured temporary physician coverage until mid-November to offer partial walk-in clinic service at the Eastern Kings Health Centre in Souris. Scheduled walk-in clinic service is based on availability of visiting family physicians (locums) from October 25 through November 15 as follows:

October 25 and 26: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

October 27: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

November 3 and 4: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

November 5, 6 and 7: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

November 10: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

November 11, 12 and 13: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

November 14: 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

November 15: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

In non-urgent situations, the public is encouraged to seek medical care at their family physician’s office or a walk-in clinic. Persons with urgent medical needs should call 9-1-1 or seek immediate medical care at the Kings County Memorial Hospital or Queen Elizabeth Hospital emergency departments when:

• experiencing discomfort or tightness in the chest;

• experiencing unusual shortness of breath;

• experiencing abdominal pain;

• experiencing prolonged and persistent headache or dizziness;

• an injury may require stitches or involve a broken bone;

• a child has prolonged diarrhea or vomiting; or

• a baby under the age of six months has a fever of 38̊C (100.4̊F) or higher.

Health PEI continues to work closely with the Department of Health and Wellness - Recruitment and Retention Secretariat to fill current physician vacancies in the Souris area. Physician recruitment remains a top priority.
