Team PEI Heads For Softworld '99 In British Columbia

A delegation of Information Technology (IT) companies from Prince Edward Island leaves Saturday for Softworld '99 in British Columbia. Team PEI, accompanied by Minister of Technology and Environment Mitch Murphy, will attend this business-to-business deal-making event that brings together IT buyers and sellers from around the world to explore, discuss and begin new business relationships.

"Technology is playing a major role in positioning Prince Edward Island as the Smart Province," says Minister Murphy. "SoftWorld is an excellent opportunity to illustrate to key IT corporations the IT capabilities and expertise being developed within our communities, industries, governments, and local businesses."

SoftWorld '99 is a networking conference designed to give participating companies and agencies a forum to showcase their IT capabilities, venture into developing markets and strengthen businesses in the global knowledge economy. The event brings together a powerful mix of the world's leading IT decision-makers in the areas of software development, systems integration and hardware manufacturing. More than 800 information technology executives from more than 30 countries will be attending the event representing such companies as GE Capital, Nortel, Oracle, IBM Canada, Microsoft Canada, Netscape Canada, Hewlett-Packard and EDS Canada.

The strategy for information technology development in the province focuses on complementing existing operations, strengthening abilities to compete outside PEI, and attracting new IT companies to expand the breadth of products and services available for export under the "Made in PEI" brand.

"Team PEI is dedicated to seeking out and developing new relationships with the aim to create new advancements, technologies and applications for the province," says Minister Murphy. "Our goal as participants at SoftWorld '99 is to advance IT development in the province significantly," he adds.

"The scope of Prince Edward Island's IT capabilities are ever expanding, and once again the industry has put together an excellent team of IT business professionals to showcase our entrepreneurs' skills and expertise," says Ed Lawlor, President of the Information Technologies Association of Prince Edward (ITAP). "With a full showcase prepared, the IT industry is ready to do business."

Team PEI includes representatives from seven companies including DeltaWare Systems Inc., Island Tel Advanced Solutions (ITAS), Simscape Development Corporation, silverorange, Business Technology Consulting, Patterson Palmer Hunt & Murphy, and Innovative Solutions Agency.
