Team PEI Heads For SoftWorld '98 In Newfoundland

A delegation of Information Technology (IT) companies from Prince Edward Island leaves for Newfoundland and Labrador tomorrow, set to form new partnerships and strategic alliances with other IT companies from around the world. Team PEI, accompanied by Premier Pat Binns and Minister of Technology and Environment Mitch Murphy will attend SoftWorld '98, a business to business deal-making event that brings IT buyers and sellers together to explore, discuss and begin new business relationships.

"Over the past several years, we have seen the increasing advantages of partnering in all sectors of the economy. The Information Technology industry is no exception. SoftWorld '98 is an excellent environment for Island businesses to investigate new markets and establish business relationships with IT companies and individuals from North America, Europe and Asia," says Premier Binns. "It also provides the growing IT sector of Prince Edward Island with an opportunity to illustrate the capabilities and expertise being developed within the province."

SoftWorld '98 is a networking conference designed to give participating companies and agencies a forum to showcase their IT capabilities, venture into developing markets and strengthen businesses in the global knowledge economy. It brings together a powerful mix of the world's leading IT decision-makers in the areas of software development, systems integration and hardware manufacture. More than 750 senior information technology executives from over 35 countries will be attending the event representing such companies as Nortel, Oracle, IBM Canada, Microsoft Canada, Hewlett-Packard and EDS Canada.

"Participation at SoftWorld '98 offers an excellent opportunity for the Island's IT industry to demonstrate its growing expertise and explore potential for new business in a highly targeted environment," says Minister Murphy. "Relationships forged in Newfoundland and Labrador over the next few days could last well into the next millennium and help fuel the growth of information technology in PEI," he adds.

"The industry has put together an excellent team of IT business professionals to attend this year's SoftWorld event," says Ed Lawlor, President of the Information Technologies Association of Prince Edward (ITAP). "PEI has seen a steadily increasing presence at this important industry event which brings PEI's IT capabilities to the world stage. The potential is there to grow our businesses and we are aggressively pursuing it."

Team PEI includes representatives from nine companies including DeltaWare Systems Inc., NR Computronics Ltd., Baseline Business Geographics Inc., Marshall Media Group, Island Tel Advanced Solutions (ITAS), Future Learning Solutions, Island Software Solutions Inc. (ISSI), CGA Canada, and Dunlop Digital Technologies.
