Honourable Keith Milligan, Minister of Transportation and Public Works, released figures today related to Government's new Telephone Vehicle Registration System (T.V.R.S.), the 24 hour toll-free vehicle renewal registration system.

T.V.R.S. was launched on March 7, 1996, by the Highway Safety Division and enables Islanders province-wide to register their passenger vehicles and light trucks. During the month of August a random selection of clients who had utilized the system were surveyed.

"Survey results indicate that since the service was initiated an average of 500 completed transactions per month transpired, with the average call lasting only 4.4 minutes. This represents approximately 10% of eligible registrations," said Mr. Milligan.

In addition to conducting vehicle registrations, the automated phone service is programmed to provide information on office hours, fee schedules, drivers licenses, and vehicle transfers. To date, 1550 calls for information have also been received.

"Customer satisfaction has always been our utmost priority, and while the survey results indicate that of those clients surveyed, 98.5% were satisfied with their experience using the system, some improvements have been suggested," said Mr. Milligan.

"I am also happy to announce that as a result of client feedback, the Highway Safety Division has installed two additional telephone lines to the Telephone Vehicle Registration System. The addition of those two lines should ensure that the system is more readily available to a greater number of Islanders."

Mr. Milligan encouraged all Islanders to make use of the toll-free service as a convenient and modern alternative for vehicle registration. The number is 1-800-658-1807.
