Summerside Intermediate School Issue Resolved

* Education [to Apr 2008]
Honourable Chester Gillan, Minister of Education, met with representatives of the Summerside Intermediate School (SIS) Council, the Western School Board and SIS staff to discuss the renovations and construction requirements as part of the province's School Construction Plan.

Two schools identified as priority for construction/renovation by the school boards for Phase One of the construction plan will require additional work and financial assistance. Bluefield High School and Summerside Intermediate School will receive top priority in a second phase of school renovation plans.

The planning committee has been assured that the original $2.5M which was the budgeted amount for SIS will enable planned construction to begin. Phase Two will allow Government to further address the needs of Island schools," said Minister of Education Chester Gillan.

The $35,000,000 Phase One of the Capital Construction Plan for PEI Schools was one of the most ambitious school construction plans in PEI history. Phase One is expected to be complete in 2001 and Phase Two will begin in 2002.

Minister Gillan added that the Government of Prince Edward Island is committed to creating safe, comfortable learning environments for the benefit of all Island students.
