Summer tourism promotion

The Province of Prince Edward Island is partnering with Island tourism operators to boost tourism during the usual summer slow-down period, says Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, Heath MacDonald.

“We are seeing strong tourism numbers so far this year and we want this to continue,” said Minister MacDonald. “Each year, we hear from industry members that late August and early September is typically a slower time and as a government, we want to work with industry to promote this time frame as a great opportunity to visit our province.”

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism has worked with the Regional Tourism Associations from across the Island, along with the Hotel/Motel Association of PEI and the Inns of Distinction, to develop vacation packages for the time period from August 23 – September 5. These packages will be promoted through Tourism PEI channels including Tourism PEI’s e-newsletter, website and social media platforms.

In addition to this campaign, the department has recently increased marketing efforts in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to promote Prince Edward Island as a premier vacation destination this fall with events such as the PEI Jazz and Blues Festival, PEI Fall Flavours and the PEI International Shellfish Festival.

“We have an excellent and truly unique product for potential visitors to enjoy here in Prince Edward Island,” said Minister MacDonald. “The Province of Prince Edward Island will continue to work with industry to find new opportunities to grow our tourism sector.”
