The government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to announce that another successful golf season, the opening of the new Dundarave Golf Course, and record revenues generated by the existing Brudenell course, have resulted in a strategic investment decision by Rodd Hotels & Resorts to add 48 additional rooms to the existing hotel complex, the Rodd Brudenell River Resort.
The announcement was made today at the resort by representatives of the provincial government, including Kevin J. MacAdam, Minister of Fisheries and Tourism, Mike Currie, Minister of Transportation and Public Works and Mr. David Rodd, President and CEO of Rodd Hotels & Resorts.
The 48-room expansion will begin this week with a completion date scheduled for June 1, 2000. When added to the existing resort rooms and the 32 new executive cottage units which were completed in July 1999, the total number of rooms available at the complex will now reach 181.
"I am very excited about the expansion and additional investment at Brudenell," noted Kevin J. MacAdam, Minister of Fisheries and Tourism. "This sound business decision reflects the win-win situation that is emerging between the golf and tourism sectors. The golf "packaging" work that is so actively marketed by the Rodds' chain are first-class and are bringing tremendous economic benefits for the entire area."
The new hotel structure will have three floors and 48 rooms, which will twin with the existing main hotel complex. The new area will be located to the west of the current structure and the pool will be relocated closer to the river.
"The expansion to the Resort is directly a result of the additional 18-holes of golf at Dundarave," noted Rodd Hotels & Resorts President and CEO, Mr. David Rodd. "Previous to this year, many times rooms were left unsold because potential guests and package buyers could not get times on the golf course. This year, Rodd Brudenell River Resort saw a 22 percent increase in business directly related to the additional times available."
"I am pleased that the Rodd family is committed to the tourism industry of eastern Prince Edward Island," said Minister Currie. "The expansion of the Brudenell River Resort will help increase the number of tourists in the area and all businesses will see a benefit as a result."
Rodd Hotels & Resorts have been leaders in Golf Marketing in Canada and as a result have experienced much success in golf packaging. This new expanded facility will ensure that they maintain and build on the excellent reputation they have created in the thriving golf industry.
