Once again, Islanders and visitors will have an opportunity to see the beauty and originality of work by Island artisans. The second Prince Edward Island Studio Tour will take place September 30 and October 1. During the two days, over 75 craftspeople, artists shops and museums will offer tours, open houses and demonstrations.
This year's studio tour builds on the success of last year's event. It's a success that amazed Katharine Dagg of Stoneware Pottery in Milton. She says many local people dropped in for the first time after driving by her shop for years. And she says tourists also commented that it was a great way to see the Island and learn about the crafts industry. "A lot of people who came by were doing their Christmas shopping," she said. "We find a lot of people are choosing Island crafts as gifts and that was certainly encouraged - and reflected in our sales during the Studio Tour."
The Studio Tour is organized by the crafts development office of the Department of Development and Technology.
"The craft industry is a very important part of the economy of this province," said Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "This is a great opportunity for craftspeople to expand their customer base - and for others to get a sense of the diversity and talent in this industry."
During the two day event, craftspeople and artists will open their studios and will provide demonstrations of their work. A number of craft shops and museums are also participating in the event.
Participants will be identified by blue signs and balloons. A map of the Studio Tour sites is also available at any of the Visitor Information Centres across the Island.
