Students and staff are celebrating the official opening of a new kindergarten wing at L.M. Montgomery Elementary School, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“The introduction of kindergarten to the Island school system is providing opportunities for children to get the best start in their education,” said Premier Robert Ghiz. “The addition of five new classrooms at L. M. Montgomery Elementary School is another example of how our government is investing in our children and working to ensure students and staff have access to the tools and space needed to succeed in a safe classroom setting.”

L.M. Montgomery Elementary School students and staff gathered with officials from the Government of Prince Edward Island and Eastern School District for the official ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling of a dedication plaque. The investment of approximately $1 million at L.M. Montgomery Elementary School has created five new classrooms for students in the East Royalty region.

“This is an exciting and historic year for kindergarten students and all Islanders,” said Education and Early Childhood Minister Doug Currie. “These students are enjoying a great environment and this expansion will benefit the community for years to come. I want to thank the Eastern School District, staff and the entire community for their efforts to help build a stronger school system across our one Island community.”

Premier Robert Ghiz, Minister Currie, Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey, and Principal Heather Cudmore joined several kindergarten students for the official ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling of a dedication plaque.

“Our newest students are adjusting very well in kindergarten this year and this expansion is being enjoyed by all staff and families in the community,” said Principal Heather Cudmore. “The additional space for students and staff is very welcoming and the expansion has created a fantastic environment that will benefit the community for years to come.”
