Students Against Drinking and Driving - Red Ribbon Campaign - December, 1996

* Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]
The Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Michael Currie, announced today his Department's support for the annual Red Ribbon Campaign organized by the Island Students Against Drinking and Driving chapters.

Mr. Currie said, "flying a red ribbon gives the public a positive way to express their support of sober driving and sends a message to those who might drink and drive."

Students Against Drinking and Driving will be selling strips of red plastic ribbon for one dollar and are asking people to sign their pledge sheet which states that: with the purchase of this ribbon I make the pledge not to drink and drive.

"The pain of impaired driving has touched many of our Island families, changing their lives forever. I'd like to underline the S.A.D.D. message that drinking then driving is not tolerated on Prince Edward Island," said Mr. Currie.

Ribbons will be on sale by students at local businesses in your community, at the high schools or by contacting Nancy Harper at 368-2125. Proceeds from the sale enable students to conduct informative school assemblies, attend provincial and national workshops and create materials on impaired driving.

This project is sponsored in partnership by the Prince Edward Island Department of Transportation and Public Works, Highway Safety Division and Island high schools.

Please drive carefully during national safe driving week.
