Raymonde Gauthier of Moncton, New Brunswick, got an early Christmas present today when her name was drawn as the winner in the "Strait Cash" promotion. Ms. Gauthier is now the proud owner of a brand new Ford Windstar van. The sales promotion took place during September and October in an effort to boost tourism and retail sales on Prince Edward Island.
Eighty-five Island tourism and retail merchants provided discounts in the form of "strait cash" as incentive for shopping or staying at their establishments. The cash was then redeemable toward the cost of the bridge toll. Customers also received a ballot to enter the draw for the Ford van.
Wes MacAleer, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, made the draw, along with Bruce MacNaughton, PEI Preserve Company Ltd., a participant in the promotion. "I kind of feel like Santa," said MacAleer, as he made the call to Gauthier. "It has an extra special feeling to give something like this away during the holidays."
"This is the first time that so many Island tourism and retail operators have worked together on a promotion," added MacNaughton. "It has been great to work together to promote Prince Edward Island and our products."
"What a wonderful Christmas present," said Ms. Gauthier. "The trip to the Island was fun, but the van is an excellent bonus, for sure!"
