Strait Cash Winner

Strait Cash, a promotion offered in Tourism PEI's "1998 Great Fall Getaways - Come Play this Fall" brochure has determined a winner for the Spring Golf Get-Away for Two promotion. Mr. Randy Mannette of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was the lucky winner of three nights accommodation; three rounds of golf; two golf shirts and a seal watching cruise on the Montague River. Mr. Mannette will be the guest of Brudenell River Resort, a Rodd Resort in eastern P.E.I.

The Strait Cash promotion offered a special incentive to Maritimers driving to Prince Edward Island last fall. Visitors received "Strait Cash" as a reward for making purchases from participating tourism locations and merchants which they then redeemed to reduce the cost of either the bridge or ferry. The brochures were mailed to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick households in early August, 1998, detailing vacation packages, festivals and events, retail promotions and hundreds of other reasons to visit Prince Edward Island during the fall season.

The Minister of Fisheries and Tourism, Kevin J. MacAdam, noted that "the number of redeemed 'Strait Cash' dollars increased from 50% in 1997 to 75% in 1998. This proves the effectiveness of the Atlantic region marketing and encourages visitors to visit various retailers and events in our fall shoulder season." The Minister added, "We are very pleased with this promotion and I congratulate Mr. Mannette on his win. I am sure he will thoroughly enjoy our golf courses and I hope he takes time to travel across Prince Edward Island when he returns to reap the contest rewards this spring."
