The PEI Emergency Measures Organization has received an updated weather report from Environment Canada which indicates that the coasts of Prince Edward Island could experience a storm surge at approximately 3 a.m.

Heavy rainfall warnings are in effect for southern New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Northwestern Newfoundland. The heaviest rainfall amounts can be expected to be near 80 mm. Wind warnings are in effect for Prince Edward Island, Eastern Nova Scotia and all of Newfoundland. Winds gusting to 100 km/h or more in the effected areas should be expected.

Higher than normal water levels due to the combination of storm surge and wave action is to be expected around many coastlines in Atlantic Canada and may result in localized flooding in some areas, particularly the south and northeast coasts of Newfoundland, northern coasts of mainland Nova Scotia and around Cape Breton, the Gulf of St. Lawrence coast of New Brunswick and the coasts of Prince Edward Island, all coinciding with a high tide after midnight tonight.

The storm surge could be in the vicinity of 100 cm above normal high tide levels. It is anticipated that the shores of PEI will experience a lot of high wave action over night and into tomorrow with winds in excess of 90 kilometres per hour.
