Statement by the Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island on the Passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (1900-2002)

Lieutenant Governor J. LĂ©once Bernard today expressed his sorrow upon learning of the death of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

"All Prince Edward Islanders are saddened by the passing of this gracious lady. Her Majesty captured our attention on her first visit to Canada in 1939 and since that time our admiration and respect for her has grown enormously. She radiated warmth and affection and not only Prince Edward Islanders, but indeed all Canadians, responded with heartfelt appreciation and love.

As we mourn the passing of The Queen Mother, we also celebrate her life and contemplate the many changes that occurred during her life that spanned more than a century. She carried out her duties, both during the dark days of World War II and also through happier times, with remarkable dedication and commitment. Her death marks the end of an era.

I join with all Prince Edward Islanders in offering our deepest condolences to The Queen and the entire Royal Family."
