Snair's Golden Grain Bakery to Open in PEI

Snair’s Golden Grain Bakery, a producer of commercial baked goods, is opening a new facility in Prince Edward Island. The bakery will produce products for existing commercial clients in the Maritimes and hopes to further expand its client base. The company will also produce rolls and bread for Atlantic Prepared Foods, which will be in operation in Bloomfield in the spring.

“We are delighted to welcome this company to the province,”said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie. “Locating here will help them secure new commercial markets and will also be an excellent fit with Atlantic Prepared Foods.”

The company is currently in the process of choosing a location. The company will employ 15 people.

Discussions with Snair’s began several months ago, after the company approached PEI Business Development, Inc about possibly locating in PEI.

Snair’s will not be in competition with existing Island bakeries. Their markets – mostly large grocery stores – are not being served by any other bakery on the Island. Additionally, the company is already working with some local bakeries to look at joint distribution.

“We are continuing to try to diversify the Island economy,” said Minister Currie. “The steady growth in manufacturing shipments from this province indicates that we are having success. Snair’s, which will produce baked goods partially for export, will be an excellent fit for this province.”

Prince Edward Island Business Development. Inc will provide the company with a performance loan of $150,000, which will be available based on job creation.
