Changes are coming that will make it easier and faster to register a commercial vehicle in Prince Edward Island.
Beginning October 3, Access PEI customer service representatives will follow a new process that will reduce red tape and address steps that could delay the registration process. The changes will be made with the help of the Highway Safety Division.
“Customers who use Access PEI for vehicle registrations will find that staff have clear expectations of the information clients must provide, and in return the registration process will be smoother and quicker,” said Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy Minister Paula Biggar. “This will make transactions at Access PEI more efficient for all customers.”
The new procedures were developed after extensive consultation with stakeholders with the Highway Safety Division, and with Access PEI staff across the Island. They follow the model set out under the Project ART (Addressing Red Tape) initiative and are centred on the need to improve customer service by streamlining rules and procedural steps.
Customers will need to have necessary documents and information in hand when arriving to register their vehicle; the complete list is available at www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/publication/commercial-vehicle-registration-checklist. The system will speed-up as clients become more accustomed to having the required information ready in advance.
“Our Access PEI counter staff provides front-counter service on more than 400 services for 13 government departments and agencies,” said Tim Garrity, director of Access PEI.
“The more efficient we can make our transactions the better the Access PEI experience will be for all of our clients and the staff.”

• Proof of Motor Vehicle Inspection
• Old registration
• Bill of sale or registration form with completed application for transfer
• Front axle rating
• Number of axles
• Number of tires and size of tires
• Gross vehicle weight rating
• Weight you wish to register based on vehicle usage
