Six Groups Receive IT Generation Funding

* Development and Technology [to Apr 2008]
Six youth organizations have received grants to provide necessary tools to form IT Clubs. The organizations are: Vernon River Allied Youth, East Prince Youth Development Center, O'Leary Community Youth Center, Wellington Boys & Girls Club, Westisle CAP, and W.E.A.K Online club from Tignish CAP.

The IT Generation program was developed to work with interested communities to help young people spread information about issues of interest to them through the use of technology. A provincial IT Generation web site will be produced and participating clubs will be encouraged to complete their own web sites. The network of clubs will provide information to youth in all communities.

The program is administered by Digital Innovations of Tignish.

Digital Innovations will create an Island wide information technology network to allow all youth the opportunity to become part of the digital era.

The IT Generation program is open to community groups across the province. Criteria for participants applying include the presence of a strong board of directors, a strong commitment to youth, and easy community access. The youth IT sites should be set up in community locations where youth gather for activities and to exchange ideas. The program is open to both new and existing groups. Funds received by the organizations will be used for the purchase of hardware or software, depending on the program.

There is no deadline for submitting applications, however funds are limited.
