Sign up your team for the go! Outside and Walk Challenge

Health and Wellness
Join the go! Outside and Walk Challenge to promote physical activity within your work place, school and family, says Minister of Health and Wellness Doug Currie.

“Physical activity is an important component of our overall health,” said Minister Currie. “This challenge is a fun and easy way to incorporate physical activity into the daily lives of Islanders and establish a culture of wellness within our families, communities, work places and schools.”

The go! Outside and Walk Challenge will take place from June 3 -16, 2013 and will be a team-based challenge. Each team member will be asked to go outside and walk at least five days per week.

Each team has the flexibility to enhance the challenge for their team. Examples include: setting a minimum distance or time that each member has to walk, scheduling a group walk, or committing to walk to and from school or work rather than driving.

Teams will be eligible for prizes and will receive daily healthy living tips as well.

“The go! Outside and Walk Challenge is something that all Islanders can participate in regardless of age or ability,” said Jamie Gosbee, go!PEI challenge coordinator. “It is not about how far you walk or how fast you walk but that you are getting outside and enjoying the benefits of walking.”

Islanders interested can register teams in one of three ways: by calling 902-892-5323, by visiting gopei.ca, or by emailing gopei@recreationpei.ca .

go!pei is a community-based healthy living program that offers free physical activity and healthy eating programs for Islanders across PEI. go!pei is funded by the Department of Health and Wellness and coordinated through Recreation PEI.
