Technology PEI has announced the names of seven additional youth organizations who have received grants to provide the necessary tools to form IT clubs. The organizations are:
St. Edward and Area Youth Committee
West Country Youth IT Club (West Prince Opportunity Network)
St. Augustine's Allied Youth Group
WOGG (CIFTA Technologies)
SKC ICT Group (Southern Kings ICT Group)
Bonshaw Computer Club (Bonshaw CAP site)
Science Rules Club (Cardigan Fish Hatchery)
The IT Generation program focuses on providing the means for youth to spread information about issues of interest to them. The clubs have received grants of $2300 each to provide technology tools. The organizations will use the funds for the purchase of hardware or software, depending on the project.
"Young people in this province demonstrate again and again that they have the imagination and determination to use the world of information technology to their benefit," said Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "We are glad to be able to support their interest through this program."
Digital Innovations, a Level II CAP site in Tignish, is delivering the program on behalf of Technology PEI. They have created a provincial IT Generation website, and clubs are encouraged to complete web sites of their own. The network will seek to be a provider of information to youth in all communities. The IT Generation web page, found at http://tigcap.peicaps.org/itgeneration, is a central location to list upcoming events at all IT Generation locations, information on the participating sites and other general information.
Since the IT Generation program's first announcement last year, 27 youth IT clubs have been formed in 20 different communities across Prince Edward Island.
Technology PEI is a provincial crown corporation within the PEI Department of Development and Technology. Technology PEI provides a leadership role in the development, use and adoption of technology for business, education, and communities in Prince Edward Island.
