Coaches have a very positive impact on athletes and communities thanks to their dedication, support and shared love of sport, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.
“I want to recognize the important role coaches play in the lives of athletes and community members,” said the minister. “National Coaches Week is a great opportunity to shine the spotlight on coaches and thank them for the difference they make in the lives of athletes across the province.”
2015 is the Year of Sport in Canada, and September 19 to 27 marks the first ever National Coaches Week. Minister Currie said coaches help to foster a love of sport and healthy, active living in Islanders of every age and skill level.
Island schools are home to over 800 coaches for team sports including soccer, volleyball, basketball, rugby, softball, field hockey and more.
