School poster campaign to celebrate royal tour

Premier's Office
A poster campaign in Prince Edward Island schools will encourage and engage youth to celebrate the tour of Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“This creative initiative will allow Island students to express their artistic talents and be a part of celebrations leading up to the 2011 Royal Tour later this summer,” said Premier Ghiz. “This is also a great opportunity for our Island youth to learn about the monarchy’s role in Canada.”

The posters will be used to decorate the various venues that Their Royal Highnesses will visit while in Prince Edward Island. The design of the posters should welcome the Royal visitors and depict something unique or special about the Island way of life.

All participants will be entered into a draw and four student artists, one from each level – primary K-3, elementary 4-6, intermediate 7-9 and senior high 10-12 – will receive an iPod Touch.

Deadline for submissions is June 17, 2011.

Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will visit Canada June 30 to July 8. For more information on the royal tour to Prince Edward, please visit www.gov.pe.ca/royaltour or check out the Prince Edward Island Government Facebook and InfoPEI twitter pages.
