Nominations for candidates to offer for election as trustees for the Eastern School District, the Western School Board and the French Language School Board are now being accepted.
A total of 29 trustees will be elected to the three School Boards during school board elections to be held May 27, 1996. The date of the election was announced in the Legislative Assembly by the Honorable Gordon MacInnis, Minister of Education.
M. H. Wigginton, Chief Electoral Officer for Prince Edward Island announced the call for the nomination of candidates today. Official nomination papers are available from the Returning Officers in each of the electoral zones in each school district. A list of the Returning Officers for the school board elections will be published in the daily newspapers of the province in the next few days. Nominations will close at 4:00 p.m. on Friday May 10, 1996.
The Eastern School District contains eleven electoral zones, including the City of Charlottetown and one trustee will be elected from each zone.
The Western School Board which includes the City of Summerside, has nine electoral zones with one trustee to be elected from each zone.
The French Language School Board has a total of five electoral zones across the province and will elect a total of nine trustees to the Board; four from zone 1, the Evangeline Region; one each from zone 2 - West Prince, zone 3 - East Prince, zone 4 - North Shore, along with two trustees from zone 5 - Eastern Prince Edward Island including the City of Charlottetown.
A description of each of the electoral zones in the three school areas will be published in the Prince Edward Island daily. These descriptions will provide details of the boundary lines of each of the electoral districts so voters will know exactly in which zone they reside and will be vote on election day.
