School Board Nominations Close Friday

Nominations for candidates wishing to seek office as trustees for the Eastern School District, the Western School Board or the French Language School Board will close at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 1996.

Persons wishing to nominate as candidates for the School Board elections to be held on Monday, May 27, 1996, must file their nomination papers with the Returning Officer in their electoral zone.

Chief Electoral Officer for Prince Edward Island Merrill Wigginton said today, ‘persons wishing to offer as candidates for election must be Canadian citizens, be eighteen years of age or older on Election day, and must have been a resident of the school unit for at least six months prior to election day.'

A total of eleven trustees will be elected in the Eastern School District while in the Western School Boards nine trustees will be elected. The French Language School Board will also elect a total of nine trustees.

To be eligible to vote for a school trustee on election day, Monday, May 27, a person must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age on election day and have been a resident of the school unit for at least six months prior to election day.

Board will be published in the daily newspapers of the province,' said Mr. Wigginton. He continued, ‘the polls will be open from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 27, election day.'

Information concerning any aspect of the School Board elections may be obtained from the Returning Officer in each electoral zone of the Eastern School District, the Western School Board and the French Language School Board.
