On January 12, 1999 the Honourable Chester Gillan, Minister of Education announced the date of the election of school trustees which will be held on May 17, 1999. Elections will be held to elect trustees for the Eastern School District, Western School Board and the French Language School Board.
M. H. Wigginton, Chief Electoral Officer for Prince Edward Island, announced today that Elections P.E.I., in cooperation with the Department of Education, has prepared School Board Elections Information Booklets which will be distributed through all Island schools on Wednesday, April 21, 1999.
These booklets, which encompasses each "Family of Schools," will be delivered to parents through the school system. Every child in the Eastern School District, Western School Board and the French Language School Board will be given a copy of the Information booklet appropriate to his or her school on Wednesday, April 21, 1999. Each booklet provides the following information to electors: elector qualifications, trustee qualifications, process for nominations, a detailed map of the electoral zone, descriptions of the school zone, name and contact information for zone Returning Officer, zone voting location, zone voting times and contact information for the Elections P.E.I. Office.
Additional copies will be available at the Regional Service Centres, Island Information service, Department of Education, PEI Home and School Federation, School Board Offices, Schools and Elections P.E.I.
