Atlantic Technology Centre (ATC) announced today that Salter Street Digital will manage its audio and video post production facilities. Salter Street Digital is a leading, full-service television and film post-production company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The company expects to be fully operational at Atlantic Technology Centre by the end of March.
The Honourable Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology, says Salter Street Digital's decision to expand to the ATC is a sign PEI's media production community is thriving. "This is great news for the ATC and for Prince Edward Island," said the Minister. "This decision by a reputable firm such as Salter Street will create more employment opportunities and develop additional talent and resources in an increasingly important sector of our economy."
As the largest post facility in Atlantic Canada, Salter Street Digital provides post production services for a number of highly successful TV shows and television movies, including: "This Hour Has 22 Minutes," "Made In Canada" and "Trudeau." Its parent company, Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. of Toronto, is a leading Canadian broadcaster, creator and international distributor of filmed entertainment with significant ownership interests in the Canadian specialty broadcast industry.
"Salter Street wants to be an integral part of the growing industry in Prince Edward Island, and we are committed to helping build a strong and sustainable business here," said Rob Power, Vice President of Salter Street Digital. "The creation of the Atlantic Technology Center convinced us of the Province's commitment to the industry and played a key role in our decision to establish a permanent presence here."
Scot MacDonald, Film Commissioner for the Province of Prince Edward Island, says this announcement will pay big dividends for the local film and television industry. "Historically, we've lost significant work on projects shot in PEI to off-Island locations because we've lacked full service post production capabilities in the province. This shortcoming has also prevented us from attracting many attractive projects in the past, and that should no longer be a limiting issue for our local industry."
ATC is designed to stimulate new partnerships among IT companies, local post-secondary training institutions and national and international IT firms seeking a competitive business environment to locate innovative applied research, new product and solution development, testing and pre-commercialization.
