May 4, 2000 Premier's OfficeThe Premier's Office has welcomed Buckingham Palace's announcement of the visit by The Royal Highnesses The Earl and Countess of Wessex to Prince Edward Island this summer. In welcoming the news of the Royal's visit, Premier Binns noted, "It is an honour for the people of Prince Edward Island and our government to host the first ever visit by The Earl and Countess of Wessex to Prince Edward Island. We are pleased that during this first summer of the new millennium we will have a special opportunity to showcase our province which has strong, historical ties to the Royal Family." The Royal visit is set for July 14-16, 2000. The visit by The Earl and Countess of Wessex coincides with the annual meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association which is being hosted in Charlottetown.
