The Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival has received the 2011 Premier’s Award for Tourism in recognition of its long-standing contribution to tourism and culture in the province, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.
“The Premier’s Award for Tourism recognizes an individual or association who has made a meaningful contribution to the tourism industry in Prince Edward Island,” said the minister. “The Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival is a highly successful festival that contributes to Island culture and heritage, especially in rural Prince Edward Island.”
The Premier’s Award is presented annually to tourism operators or attractions who have moved the industry forward and inspired others to do the same. The Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival was chosen because it is a long-standing cultural festival that has attracted thousands of visitors to the Island for over three decades.
“Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival has helped the Island become a destination for cultural tourism and we are pleased to recognize its 35 years of operation,” Minister Vessey said. “We encourage visitors to take part in cultural attractions this summer, such as the Fiddle Festival, our new Island Fusion Festival, and Arts and Heritage Trail.”
Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival organizers accepted the award at the Annual TIAPEI Conference and Awards Gala on Wednesday night.
