The Honourable Kevin J. MacAdam, Minister of Fisheries and Tourism, announced today that an agreement has been reached with Rodd Hotels and Resorts to expand their resort at Brudenell. The expansion will include 32 deluxe 4-star cottage type units to open in July ‘99. Further expansion will see an additional 48 cottage type units, a new restaurant, expanded meeting facilities, upgraded recreation facilities and a boardwalk along the river to assist in tying all of the development together into a cohesive resort destination. The initial expansion investment will be approximately $1.5 million.
"When the expansion is complete, Brudenell will be one of the finest destination resorts in Canada," said Mr. MacAdam.
Mr. David Rodd, President of Rodd Hotels & Resorts, said the expansion makes sense for the company, given the expansion of golf facilities at Brudenell.
"The addition of a second championship golf course and the golf learning centre will undoubtedly generate additional demand for accommodation at the resort. Rodd Hotels & Resorts has been active in the golf packaging business, and we see this as a great opportunity to further enhance this market with the expansion of the resort," said Mr. Rodd.
Minister MacAdam explained that the province will provide Rodd Hotels & Resorts with an eight (8) acre parcel of land adjacent to the existing resort for its expansion. The province will upgrade essential services at Brudenell, including sewer and water, to accommodate development. Rodd Hotels & Resorts will finance the cost of its expansion.
When the development is complete, Rodd Hotels & Resorts projects 45 additional jobs will be created.
