March 15, 2011 Islanders can now make an important contribution to a “Relief Fund for Victims of the Japan Earthquake Disaster” at the Province’s 18 liquor stores. Collection boxes are now available for donations to the Canadian Red Cross to assist in relief efforts. “Islanders are always extremely generous and ready to help anyone out in a time of need,” said Minister Robert Vessey,“ and the Liquor Control Commission and its staff are proud to be a collection point for those who wish to assist the victims of the Japan earthquake disaster.” He further pointed out that this method of collection was very successful in January, 2010, when Islanders generously assisted the people of Haiti by donating $19,500 and he encouraged everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to help out the Japanese people following this horrible disaster. Contributions may be in the form of cash, debit/credit card or personal cheques made out to the “Canadian Red Cross Society” with “Japan Relief” indicated in the subject area of the cheque.
