To show pride and support for Dave 'Eli' MacEachern and his gold medal achievement at the Nagano Olympics, Islanders are encouraged to wear Canada's colors -- red and white to the homecoming celebration at the Charlottetown Civic Centre.
To further promote the red and white theme, Canadian flags, courtesy of the Honourable Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage, will be given out to all those who attend the homecoming party. Welcome home fan cards will also be available.
The festivities will begin at 5:30 pm with the lively musical entertainment of the Island's own Chaisson Celtic Tide. Tony the Tiger will be on hand with treats and lots of enthusiasm to ensure a loud "roar" of welcome greets MacEachern on his arrival to the Civic Centre.
Due to previous commitments, Premier Pat Binns will be unable to attend. He will, however, bring greetings by video on behalf of the province. After presentations by the Hon. Chester Gillan, Minister Responsible for Sport; His Worship George MacDonald, Mayor of Charlottetown; and Bryon Sutcliffe, President of Sport PEI, MacEachern will address the crowd. Some lucky fans will also be in for a surprise at the end of the ceremony.
Civic Centre doors will open at 4:30 pm and the public are encouraged to arrive early. The Province of Prince Edward Island and the City of Charlottetown are co-hosting Dave "Eli" MacEachern's welcome home party and admission is free.
