Ready To Go And Waiting For Snow!

* Fisheries and Tourism [to May 2000]
The Brookvale Winter Activity Park has taken another big step in its evolution to an all-encompassing winter recreation area. The Minister of Fisheries and Tourism, Kevin J. MacAdam, today announced a snow tubing park has been added to the facilities, continuing the property and activity improvements at Brookvale.

Tubing, the original snow-toy experience has had a major resurgence and provides an additional activity to traditional ski facilities. Non-skiers can enjoy the experience equally as well as advanced skiers.

"The new snow tube park at Brookvale will be a highlight of any day at the Winter Park. A new tube lift has been installed, complete with three five-hundred foot tube runs. The runs will provide various levels of tubing fun. Beginners, intermediate and advanced, noted Minister MacAdam.

The new facility can be accessed via the Alpine area or by the new dedicated parking area. A passenger sleigh will be provided so that visitors can enjoy all facilities with ease. Snowmaking will also be available at the tubing facility to ensure quality during poor snow conditions. The addition of tubing at Brookvale compliments the traditional activities of the facility while promoting additional activities for the non-skiers.

Minister MacAdam added, "Sliding down snowy hills on inner-tubes is something that is fondly remembered from many Islanders childhoods. Now parents can revisit the old days together with their children and enjoy the new twist on an old-fashioned snow activity. There is no skill required and lots of fun to be had."

Additional improvements at Brookvale include the increase in snowmaking capacity and additional snowboarding equipment. The snow tube park will operate Wednesday through Sunday, inclusive of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Group and school bookings will be accepted on request during off hours. All bookings for the tubing park can be arranged through Brookvale at 658-7861.
