August 18, 2011 * Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]A new library catalogue system for the Prince Edward Island Public Library Service will result in more efficient services for Islanders, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey. “Our public library branches play an important role in promoting literacy and a life-long love of learning,” said the minister. “This investment will improve services for library users and employees.” The new Symphony system will result in a much more robust catalogue that allows for new features to be developed to improve services for library users. All library branches will remain open while the new system is being installed, although some services will be unavailable August 29 - September 1 during the transition. During this time, the following services will be temporarily unavailable: catalogue searches, placing hold requests and item renewals. No fines for overdue materials will be issued during this time.
