PEI Heart Health will be sponsoring a public presentation by Professor Neil Bracht from the School of Social Work, University of Minnesota, at the Rollo Bay Inn on June 18. Professor Bracht will be speaking on Community Development for Healthier Communities: Lessons learned about successful partnerships.
Earlier in the evening Bracht will be addressing PEI Heart Health volunteers. He will be discussing the special contribution of community volunteers. The presentation coincides with the annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner where about 40 Heart Health volunteers in Eastern Kings will be honoured.
Bracht is the co-investigator for the Minnesota Heart Health program as well as the editor of the well-known book, "Health Promotion at the Community Level." He also serves as consultant to the European Healthy Cities project in the Office of Health Promotion, World Health Organization, Copenhagen and the Canadian Heart Health Initiative.
"It is exciting to host Neil Bracht. He is a leading expert in the area of Heart Health Promotion and community development in Health Promotion initiatives," says PEI Heart Health co-investigator and Research Coordinator Terry Mitchell PhD. "I couldn't think of a more fitting way to honour our volunteers than to have Mr. Bracht, whose recent book on Community and Health Promotion is coming out this fall, acknowledge their contributions."
"The PEI project is a key leader in participatory Action research for Health Promotion and is pleased to welcome the general public to attend the public address,"say Terry Mitchell, PhD.
