Islanders are invited to attend the Prince Edward Island Provincial Heritage Fair to celebrate and explore their history and culture, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.

Close to 200 students representing 26 schools across our province will participate in this year’s fair Friday, May 20, at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. The students, from Grades 5 - 9, were selected from school fairs to participate in the provincial event.

“The Provincial Heritage Fair is an excellent opportunity for students and all Islanders to learn more about our province and country’s rich culture,” said the Minister. “The provincial government recognizes the importance of heritage in enriching Islander’s lives and providing unique experiences to visitors. I want to congratulate all students participating in this year’s event.”

The students will display their projects for judging during the morning before attending an afternoon workshop or tour at one of the province’s heritage or cultural attractions. Awards will be presented during the closing ceremonies in the afternoon.

The heritage fair is organized by the Department of Tourism and Culture, with representatives from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation, and Community Museums Association of Prince Edward Island.

Prizes for the students’ projects are generously donated by a number of community organizations.
