Provincial government employees gathered at an appreciation reception today to celebrate the success of their 2006 campaign for United Way. The employee campaign raised $127,415.
Employee campaign chair Sandy Stewart thanked volunteers and donors for being so generous. “This was a total team effort that involved employees from one end of the Island to the other. They gave generously to the payroll campaign and participated in fundraising barbecues, pancake breakfasts, dress-down days and 50-50 draws. As a result, we met and surpassed our goal of $120,000. The campaign committee is proud of the very generous support that the provincial public service provides to Islanders through the United Way,” he said.
The overall goal of the United Way campaign this year is $800,000. Provincial government employees are one of the campaign’s lead donor groups. The campaign is directed to active and retired civil servants, as well as retired teachers. The average gift this year was $95.
