Provincial Golf Courses Open for the Season

* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
The Minister of Tourism, Greg Deighan today announced that all the provincial golf courses will be ready and open for business Friday, May 17, 2002.

Mill River had a better winter than the rest and opened for business on Friday, May 10, with the Links at Crowbush Cove, Brudenell and Dundarave opening for business this coming Friday.

"People have been keen to get out for their first games, and a lot of the private courses were able to open a bit earlier than we were," noted the Minister. "We wanted to be sure that the courses had the best possible start for the year, ensuring the quality of the course for the long and busy summer season."

Golf as a sport has been rising in popularity since 1990, and it is expected that this year will be even busier than years before. Enhanced marketing in the Atlantic, Quebec and New England regions will increase awareness of our perfect summer destination. It is expected we will see many of these visitors on the golf courses not only in the summer but the growing shoulder season as well.

Minister Deighan added, "Golf is a strong tourism product for Prince Edward Island, and the various awards and high profile events that PEI has been honoured to host has only strengthened our stature in the golf market. Islanders can be proud of our golf courses and the healthy economic impact that they have on our Island economy."

Tee-off times can be booked by calling 1-800-235-8909. There is an added booking option of requesting tee-off times on-line at the website www.golflinkspei.com or by visiting the www.peiplay.com website and following the golf links to "Golf Links PEI."
