Upgrades to the St. Margaret’s Community Hall and improvements to the CN Park in Souris will enhance these facilities for hosting events, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair.

“Ensuring that communities have modern facilities to use for various events and activities is an important component of building rural Prince Edward Island,” said Minister LeClair. “These two projects will be of great and lasting benefit to residents and visitors.”

The total cost of the two projects is $97,000. The provincial government is contributing approximately $73,000, with the community sponsors providing approximately $24,000 overall.

St. Margaret’s Community Hall requires upgrading of its septic system. The total cost of the project is $81,000. The Island Community Fund is contributing $61,000 to this project.

The CN Park in Souris needs a new stage and proper seating. The total cost of the project is $16,000. The Island Community Fund is contributing $12,000 to this project.

“Upgrades to the St. Margaret’s Hall will make it easier to maintain, and enhancements to the CN Park in Souris will allow it to host events which have the potential to provide economic benefits to the area,” said Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell.

The Island Community Fund is a six-year $27.5 million program established by the provincial government to address infrastructure needs with a focus on rural communities.
